Osprey at Maxey



I got a call on Saturday morning from Chris Lines to say he had an Osprey at Maxey pits. I went straight away, but it took us perhaps 45 minutes to relocate it over the complex of pits and fishing lakes. It was being mobbed by a Rook, but then flew towards the Etton Road pits.
When we go there, it was sitting on the gravelly edge. These digiscoped images don't really show it, but in flight the pale fringes to the wing feathers were very obvious, showing it was a juvenile.
Osprey is species number 180 for my local year list. Only 10 to go to beat last year's 189...
