Ruddy Darter action

Yesterday (1.9.04), the Bogbumper took me out at lunchtime to Castor Hanglands NNR. The place was heaving with insects, the best of which were some huge Hornets hunting for creatures to bring back to the nest, to feed the sqeaking, demanding grubs. One of these mighty beasts deliberately flew into a spider's web, grabbed a ready-wrapped bug from the spider's lair and made off with the paralysed package.
Sadly, I failed to photograph this event, and the came away with the second prize of Ruddy Darter dragonflies, including a pair in full mating pose.
