Shag at Ferry Meadows CP, Peterborough
The Deeping Lakes Red-necked Grebe was bird number 185 for my Peterborough area (PBC area) list in 2017. The next day was very snowy (for these 'ere parts), and this Shag was found by Matt Webb at FMCP. Luckily I was able to refind it in the freezing wind and sleet/rain, and it came in close to feed on Gunwade Lake. I reckon it is a second-winter bird, rather than the usual juveniles we have locally. I guess 186 will probably the final total...

Colour-ringed Med Gull
I found this second-winter Mediterranean Gull at Ferry Meadows CP, Peterborough on 9th November. I could see it was colour-ringed, but couldn't read the ring properly and didn't have a camera. Luckily, today (14th), it was in exactly the same place, resting with Black-headed Gulls on the littel T-shaped pontoon dock outside the watersports centre on Gunwade Lake. And I had a camera! It looks like ASSH to me. Record submitted. I will keep you posted on the bird's provenance.
*POST SCRIPT: as you can see from the last picture above, the Med Gull was ringed in southern Sweden (on the Baltic side) in June 2016. Fascinating stuff.

Wilson's Storm Petrel
On our pelagic trip with Mar Ilimitado out of Sagres, Algarve, Portugal, we encountered a single Wilson's Petrel. I think I managed this one photo which shows its long dangling legs (which project beyond the tail) and a hint of the pale panel in the upper wing. It was easier in real life, as it had a subtly differnt flight style, was slightly larger and those legs were really noticeably long!
European Storm Petrels off Sagres, Portugal
These Mother Carey's Chickens are little devils to photograph! These were taken on a trip with Mar Ilimitado on a fam trip to Sagres, Algarve, last week.
