Lockdown Diary: Sunday 7.6.20

Easily my highlight of the short bit of birdwatching I did today was seeing a male Stonechat at a site south of Peterborough. Stonechats are regular winter visitors to the area around here, but summering birds (and indeed breeding birds) are rare. I had heard of a Stonechat being seen in this area in the last week or so, so it wasn’t exactly a ‘find’ as such. But still nice to see.
The big news from the Weedon garden is that the owners of the house next door, presumably in an effort to sell the house, have removed the giant leylandii trees which have been blocking light to our garden fo r years and stopping grass growing on half of our lawn! The new-found light has transformed our garden, and given me new-found motivation to shape it even more for wildlife (it already resembles a shady woodland glade!).
